On June 21, 1941, artists of the traveling circus are giving their first performance in a small Latvian town under the direction of the famous hypnotist Andrey Belov working under the pseudonym of «Great Armando». Belov's wife, an air equilibrist Elsa, dies due to the unlucky coincidence - she sees a little girl among the audience, loses her balance and falls into the arena. This girl mystically reminds her daughter Masha, who died five years ago.
